Interviewed by: Tony for MONARKH magazine on the 23/11/2008

1) How did you first get into design?

I think it started when I was introduced to design applications on the computer. I then started to experiment and quickly realized the potential of this tool. I have however always been interested in architecture and constructions especially the technical drawings and perspective drawings, which I tried to duplicate through out my childhood.

2) How you would best describe your work?

I think that my work is currently a mix of grid-based design and more psychedelic and unstructured compositions. I am also trying to approach things conceptually but I do not believe that it is possible to be 100% conceptual without any personal style influencing the work. I think that client work is as important as personal work. I don’t see any difference creatively between those two. Client work is of course necessary to earn some money. I think that all my work is a part of the same thing.

3) What inspires you the most?

Nature, society, modernism, psychedelic art, other graphic designers, my own imagination, which have some weird tendencies to come up with things I don’t even know where is coming from and finally everyday life.

4) How do you normally start work on a project?

I usually go around for some days trying to make up my mind and get a basic idea of what is going to happen. When I get to do the actual design I usually play on with the idea and modifies it or changes it completely.

5) On average, how many hours a week do you spend on design?

That really depends on deadlines, amount of work and personal motivation.

6) What style music do you listen to when you work?

Like every other designer I got a weak heart for electronic music but my favourite way of listening to music is by using the shuffle feature in iTunes. This brings me around in my extensive music collection which features both Danish pop, electronic, classic rock and bebop jazz plus a lot of music, which I don’t even know, why I got.

7) Who do you admire the most and why?

I admire people like Daniel Eatock who is able to do so many different things and experiments. I like that focus is not on having an extensive client list. It is more about ideas and curiosity.

8) Favorite website(s)?

www.danskdynamit.com (design news portal in Danish) vvork.com

9) Any words of wisdom you would like to share with us?

I think that good design is design which fits its purpose, but the most entertaining is often the total misfits.
